A busy end of year for Marlee Morris

Some great gigs on the horizon.  On the 16th of October we are dancing at Hillary’s Boardwalk for “Folk on the Water 2” – for more details of our performance – see Event.

Next gig will be the Festival of Lights in South Fremantle on Sunday 7th of November between 5 and 6PM.  We had great fun dancing there last year and are pleased to have been chosen to dance there again.  For some photos from last year see photos.  For some videos – see videos.

A few weeks later we are dancing at Rosalie Village Fete – time to be confirmed.

Eight days later we are wishing one of our dancers farewell by dancing out in Crawley near Bayside Kitchen between 11 and 12 on Sunday 28th of November.

We will wind up the year by dancing (& eating and drinking) at and near PICA Bar in Northbridge on Wednesday 15th of December from 6:30.

Interesting gigs coming up.

After a successful Come and Try It it is great to have a few interesting gigs to look forward to.

Marlee Morris is performing at Balingup for the Balingup Mini-Eval Festival – see BMC for more information.  The festival is on Saturday 28th of August – see Event for more details.

We have been invited by the Fair Maids of Perth to dance with them and the Perth Morris Men at Cottesloe on the 4th of September.  See FMOP for more details.  Continue reading “Interesting gigs coming up.”

A bit of a relax after a busy time

It is time to learn a few new dances without the pressure of getting ready for any particular performance at the moment.

Over a period of a month we did four public performances and one workshop.  We started with a  workshop at Fairbridge Festival and concluded with a performance at Moondyne Festival.  It was good fun and performances and the workshop were all well received.

Also we were very excited to be part of the video for this Phil Hambling song – A Hundred Years Hence

Busy time ahead

After a reasonable start to the year we have some great gigs to look forward to over the next couple of months.

Firstly we are dancing at Fairbridge Festival on the 11th of April – details –  here.

Secondly performing at Buddha’s Birthday on Sunday 18th of April – details here.

Thirdly we are helping to celebrate St George’s Day for the Joondalup Sports Association on 23rd of April.  Details here.

Lastly we are part of the entertainment at Moondyne Festival on the 2nd of May – dancing at 11:50 and 3:30 – see Event.

Compliments of the Season and Happy 2021

Marlee Morris would like to wish you all the best for 2021.

It has been an interesting year for Marlee Morris.  Covid 19 resulted in the cancellation of the National Folk Festival and Fairbridge Festival – both of which we were booked to perform at.   We also had to cease practice but fortunately only for three months.

The good news is that despite all that we still danced out some eight times during the year. Continue reading “Compliments of the Season and Happy 2021”

Marlee News – Folk in the Forest and more

Since the resumption of practices back in mid June we have been reasonably busy both with practices and a few events.  We have danced at the following:

  • Tom’s Birthday Celebrations – Tom celebrated a significant Birthday recently and he is presently Foreman of three out of the four Perth Morris sides and has been involved with Morris in Perth for approximately forty years.  So it was only appropriate that all Morris sides turned out to dance for and with Tom.  For us dancing there see – Black Joke Bledington
  • Core Cider – Fire Fable Feast.  For the second year in a row they invited us to help celebrate the “Fire, Fable and Feast” Winter Festival.  It was a well organised and fun night.  For us dancing there see – Dilwyn
  • Carmel Cider – Winter Wassailing Festival.  Another Cidery invited us to dance for them.  It was a fun evening – for some photos see – Photos

We are performing at the South Fremantle Festival of Lights in South Terrace, South Fremantle from 5 to 7 PM on Sunday 8th of November.

We have been invited to perform at the annual “Folk in the Forest” event at Dwellingup in November. Folk in the Forrest is a fund raiser for “Little Folk” a children’s cancer charity.  In their blurb they said “We look forward to having Marlee Morris make their debut this year.  Exciting, vibrant, consummate dancers all – they’ll take your breath away.  We may get a brief glimpse of them on Friday night just before the ceili. See them on the deck on Saturday after lunch.”  For more details – see Folk in the Forest Performance

Come and Try It

Marlee Morris extend an invitation to you to come and try Morris dancing, that whacky traditional English dancing with sticks, bells and handkerchiefs (wavers) . We are welcoming new members after a Covid break and can’t wait to start dancing out again.

We’ll all be there at The Seaward Guide Hall, Monash Ave, Nedlands on August 16, 9am – 12pm ready to teach you what we know – and we’ll provide morning tea so you can have a chat and get to know us. While some previous dancing experience might be helpful, the only way to find out if you can do it is to give it a go! It’s free for the first lesson and we all contribute a token amount after that to go towards hall hire. We are a very social group and often gather at a café or pub after a gig.

Let Steve know if you wish to join us on 0400 731 049 and he can answer your questions about Morris dancing in general and why we love it so much. Wear comfortable clothing with flat shoes.

For a downloadable and/or printable flyer see – CATI_2020 and for more details (maps & calendar stuff) see – Come and Try It Event
